Sustainable development is, according to the UN, "development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs."

We have chosen to define the concept based on environmental, economic, and social responsibility.

We believe that sustainable development arises when these three components support each other:

Environmental Responsibility

For us, the environment is important, which is why we ensure that our products are produced with energy efficiency and minimal environmental impact.

When we choose materials, we use recyclable materials as much as possible, which we sort and recycle in cooperation with Stena. We influence the product's use through controls, energy consumption, and light quality. We always ensure that our luminaires have replaceable parts whenever possible.

We use environmentally friendly chemicals to the greatest extent possible. We follow the laws surrounding this but also strive to exceed them.

Economic Responsibility

At Westal, we encourage consideration of multiple factors when making decisions.

Running a financially sound company requires several aspects to be profitable, and it is with these means that we operate: sustainable products, flexibility, job creation, reducing quality losses, skills supply, and employee development.

By offering job opportunities and paying taxes, Westal contributes to the economy and economic prosperity.

Social Responsibility

Westal's long-term goal in social responsibility is to contribute to a better society by being a responsible and respectful employer.

We aim to contribute to positive social development in the geographic areas where we operate. The company culture at Westal is characterized by flexibility, innovation, and proactivity.

The company's long-term sustainability vision is to be the most attractive workplace in the lighting industry.
This is achieved by respecting everyone's equal value and rights, and by offering all employees a good, safe, fair, and non-discriminatory working environment. Furthermore, our employees should have equal opportunities to develop within the organization.

To reach our sustainability goals, it is not only the environmental and social responsibility of our business that matters, but we also strive to ensure that our suppliers and partners share our values and vision of a sustainable society.

We have clear requirements that our suppliers should have well-established procedures for environmental and quality management, as well as basic principles of human rights.

After EcoVadis' evaluation of Westal's sustainability efforts, we have been awarded their bronze medal. 🌱
This award is given to companies that achieve a high level of global sustainability, and the bronze medal places Westal among the top 50% of the best companies evaluated by EcoVadis. The assessment covers a broad spectrum of non-financial management systems, including impacts on the environment, labor market and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement.

For Westal, sustainability is an important part of our work that we will continue to focus on.
