Danvikshem

On top of the hill, with a view over the harbor entrance in Stockholm, stands the large red brick castle, Danvikshem – one of Sweden's most unique nursing homes. The building was very modern by the standards of its time when it was inaugurated in 1915, and it has been renovated and modernized many times since then.
When it was time to update the lighting and replace the old compact fluorescent lamps in the home's corridors, Johan Viik, the electrical and lighting manager at Danvikshem, turned to Westal for assistance. The property has an older central lighting control unit, which, among other things, dims the lighting in the evening and at night. Was there a way to replace the lighting without needing to replace the entire system?
The choice fell on the WLD R20 from Westal. A downlight with excellent light distribution and pleasant glare-free light, thanks to the LED chip being positioned high up in the fixture.
- The biggest challenge in this project was finding a solution that didn’t require replacing the existing lighting control system, says Johan Bergkvist, sales representative for consultants at Westal.
To ensure the fixtures could be used with the older control system, a custom adaptation was made with new drivers. - Thanks to the broad technical expertise we have at our factory in Bankeryd, we were able to put our heads together and create a customized solution that is cost-effective, maintenance-free, and energy-saving for Danvikshem, continues Johan. A win-win-win for the customer!
We offer several fixtures and solutions to replace or update older fluorescent fixtures in preparation for the phase-out of fluorescent lighting in 2023.
