Lighting for Hearing Loops

As an aid for people with hearing impairments, fixed hearing loops are installed in gathering halls and reception areas according to BBR 3:145 Accessibility and usability in public spaces.

The hearing loop should be connected to the same sound played through the speakers in the respective space. Loop amplifiers should be placed near other audio equipment. The installation of the hearing loop must comply with IEC 60118-4 and IEC 62489-1 regarding external monitoring of hearing loops. The hearing loop is installed permanently with wiring placed under the floor, of the type Multi Loop / uncorrelated / SLS. The wiring between the loop configuration and the amplifier should be twisted (to avoid interference) and kept as short as possible. Signal cables should never be placed parallel to the loop wire. The monitoring of the hearing loop's functionality should be external through a visual sign that actively indicates the performance of the loop. The sign should be placed in the room so that both the audience and the speaker can see it. The sign should indicate if the signal is good, too high, or nonexistent in the loop area. The hearing loop at the reception should meet the requirements of IEC 60118-4 and create a local loop field at the reception desk with a microphone that picks up the receptionist's speech.
